New Spring / Summer Cakes From The Cake Shop Mandarin Oriental Jakarta

When it comes to dining at a luxurious hotel, buffet restaurant is probably the most popular. Once I came to Mandarin Oriental Jakarta when about applying for Schengen Visa as the hotel is located just beside the German Embassy. I've heard (a lot) that they are known for their cakes collection, also they're the first that introduced Cronuts in Jakarta, and it is still a hunt for the certain citizens. A hybrid of croissant and doughnut, found by Dominique Ansel Bakery in New York City. Well here, The Cake Shop, one of the finest dessert destination in Jakarta, offers more than cronuts, to mention, chocolate pralines, assorted truffles, macarons, individual and whole cakes with very interesting creations.

The New Spring / Summer cake collection from Mandarin Oriental Jakarta presented by the new Executive Pastry Chef Remi Martinazzo, with more than 18 years experience in various patisseries around France and he's also been to Sketch, London a 2-star Michelin restaurant. Indonesia is his first country in Asia, it must be very exciting for him. As seen, his creations for the new cake collection for The Cake Shop, it's inspired by mostly local sweets (jajanan pasar), involving tropical fruits such as mango, coconut, and jackfruit (yes, good decision). To choose, I prefer coconut cake to red velvet, one that can be everyone's favorite.

As I mentioned earlier, The Cake Shop also offers various kind of chocolate pralines, assorted truflles, and macarons. My personal favorite, the raspberry pralines, bitter sweet chocolate with fresh raspberry sauce inside. More, the macarons. I'm not a big fan of macarons, as it's very sweet, one is more than enough. But ended up eating two just because it's so good, especially the "dadar gulung" one, delightful texture with nutty coconut and sweet pandan aroma, unlike any other macarons.

The show was just about to begin, Chef Remi prepared his new cakes collection in a very different yet interesting way, such as a spoonful of pandan - coconut dessert that represent the coconut cake. Macaron ice cream was really sweet in a good way, homemade ice cream, I've never been really into sweet things as this much, the reason, balance flavor, textures, quite light to my palate. Got some pretty little cakes to company my green tea, it was an exceptional afternoon tea by chance. I can see myself coming back in the future for a whole cake to share on special occasion or a little sweet treat for the weekend.
